Employee will serve as a Psychology Technician aligned within Mental Health located at the Veterans Healthcare System in Saint Cloud, MN.
Duties

Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Patient Care Services (PCS) Support:
Serves as a team leader for ancillary staff in the daily completion of safety surveillances, rounding and documentation of patient care activities and behaviors.
Communicates to the team imminent safety risks such as suicide, homicide, unauthorized absence, falls, etc.
Observes and documents patient progress, e.g., activities of daily living, psychosocial needs, health status, rehabilitation goals, behavioral functioning, etc. Provides assistance with timely interventions.
Coordinates domiciliary bed transfers within and between domiciliary buildings.
Facilitates individual and group education under the guidance of clinical staff/treatment team.
Serves as an advocate for the patient while in the residential setting, communicating with staff, family members, and others interested in the patient's care to resolve problems and difficulties.
Promotes a safe and therapeutic environment; documents and responds to patient misconduct (e.g., conduct; fighting; disrespectful; theft; intoxication; possession of weapons, alcohol, drugs, etc.)
Obtains and documents patient vital signs.
Caseworker Support:
Assists in improving social and interpersonal functioning by maximizing constructive use of time through use of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities appropriate for the residents.
Provides education regarding the importance of these activities, facilitates engagement assist in resource identification.
Staff Training/Support:
Participates in the development, education and sustainment of policy development, staff training.
Provides expertise on automated systems and databases (functionality; parameters; settings; user menus; etc.)
Performs other duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Multiple Schedules with rotating shifts, may include weekends and holidays. Tour of Duty will be discussed during interview.

Qualifications
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least 6 months of technical work under the direction of a professional psychologist in a program of professional services, training, or research. To be creditable, experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: observing and documenting patient activities and progress, e.g., activities of daily living, psychosocial needs, health status, rehabilitation goals, behavioral functioning, etc., and providing timely interventions; obtaining and documenting patient vital signs; and conducting safety surveillances of patient activities, behaviors, and environment. (Resume must document 'under the direction of a professional psychologist' to receive credit). Note: Appropriate credit will be given for voluntary participation in community, social service, and similar activities. -OR-
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed 6 months of graduate study in psychology in an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires walking, bending, climbing stairs, stooping, and lifting les than 50 pounds in the performance of patient care activities and clear lockers. With multiple floors, units, and buildings, employee must be physically present in each distinct area of the building to ensure auditory and visual awareness of the space. Walking up and down ramps and stairs is a regular occurrence. Additional walking throughout the medical center is required to facilitate patient programming, meetings, trainings, and other administrative tasks as required. Requires heavy lifting (45 pounds or more), moderate carrying (up to 45 pounds), reaching above shoulders, use of both hands and legs, use of fingers, prolonged walking and standing, intermittent crawling, kneeling and bending, and ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Requires mental and emotional stability.
