About the Position: This position plans and constructs custom containers, pack, preserve and crate items for shipment or storage, and brace and block items for shipment, and operate forklifts to facilitate loading and unloading. This position is a Bargaining Unit AR3135 position.

Duties

Secures cargo inside or upon conveyances which have regular, rectangular, unobstructed cargo areas. Installs blocking and bracing inside or upon box cars, gondolas, flat cars, vans, trucks or other conveyances. Determines necessary sizes for braces, wedges, cables, and other staying devices by measuring or estimating them before and during construction or installation. Identifies and locates ammunition and components for shipment. Ensures conveyances are adequate for transporting materials.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted and require pre-employment screening and random testing screening.
• This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban/Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.

Must possess the ability to perform the most difficult and complex securing ammunition or other hazardous cargo by, constructing and installing boxes, wooden blocks, braces, wedges, and gates for loading inside or upon, box and flat rail cars, vans, trucks, and other conveyances which have regular, rectangular, unobstructed cargo areas. I am skilled in determining measurements needed for them before construction and during installation to make fit. I am skilled in locating and conducting pre-shipment inspections and loaded hazardous cargo such as ammunition and other components identified for shipment using material handling equipment such as electrical, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklifts. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: Is exposed to danger of explosion and fire while working with explosives, chemicals, and loaded ammunition. Works both inside and outside and is frequently exposed to disagreeable heat, coldness, dampness, wind and rain. Is exposed to noise and to possible cuts, abrasions, and splinters from power sawing, handling lumber, spiking, nailing, and other work. Exposed to nose and lung irritation from dust and sawdust. To avoid injuries, may wear protective eyeglasses, a face shield, protective ear devices, gloves, hard hats, hard toe shoes, or other protective equipment.
