About the Position: Serves as a fully trained Firefighter, Basic Life Support, and Hazmat Technician engaged in the protection of life and property. This is a Bargaining Unit position AR3135

Duties

This is a developmental position being filled at the GS-03, 04, 05, 06 or 07 Levels. The full performance GS-07 level of this position entails the following duties: Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies. Use hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete an initial hazardous materials incident analysis. Drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle, airport rescue fire fighting vehicle). Perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires. Operate firefighting equipment (e.g., hoses, ladders, hydrants) to fight structural fires.

• This position requires a 72 hour a week position with 48 hours shift on and 48 hours shift off.
• This position requires you to wear a uniform and/or wear personal protective equipment as appropriate and complies with safety and health directives (OSHA).
• This position requires you to work both inside and outside with possibility exposure to inclement weather.
• This position requires a pre-employment physical fitness assessment and continued participation in a scheduled physical fitness program as directed by current Army regulatory guidance.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is a Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
• This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30 and/or months of firefighter training by 6. Add the two percentages. GS-04 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; experience performing rescue operations; experience detecting, reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards; experience operating fire communications equipment; experience controlling hazardous materials incidents; or experience developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or other related fields of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study.
