Duties
Provide directions to fire crews during fire and rescue operations.
Direct fire and emergency medical personnel responding to medical emergencies.
Assist in the training of firefighting crew on fire fighting and prevention techniques.
Instruct fire crews how to properly maintain fire department apparatus and equipment.
Perform inspection for fire hazards in all types of structures throughout the installation.
Requirements
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 100 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- As a "Key" position, the incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires you to work 72 hours per week (144 hours per pay period) to include weekends and holidays and may be subject to recall after normal tour of duty in cases of emergencies.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes working as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew, directing members of the crew in the care and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment. Directing crew in the full performance of firefighting tasks such as, structures, equipment, facilities, hazardous materials response, wild fire response and confined space and high angles rescues. Provide and/or assist in training firefighters in firefighting, emergency management services, fire prevention, fire techniques and procedures. Assign fire prevention tasks to crew members and review their work. Inspect and test fire extinguishing equipment and systems. Respond to fires and emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
