About the Position: This position serves as an Explosive Operator Working Leader of a number of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work associated with the manufacturing, maintenance, and demilitarization of ammunition, missiles, rockets, precision guided munitions, explosives, and ammunition components.
Duties
Serve as a working leader providing work instructions to employees for daily explosives operator tasks.
Enter daily final results into an automated reporting system (MRP) including consumptions and confirmation.
Advise workers on proper procedures and techniques to be used based on the nature of assignment.
Perform explosive production, rework or maintenance operations, such as operating automatic and semi-automatic machines using judgment and manual skill to determine how much to adjust controls or when to start another stage of the operation.
Perform manual assembly operations such as assembling a fuse, inserting booster charges and detonators, screwing or bolting down components to achieve mechanical strength.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
- This position is a Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Performs duties, which may involve handling/storing hazardous waste material. Must complete the introductory course in hazardous waste management within six months of being assigned to these duties and attend annual refresher course.
- This position requires you possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Give directions to a number of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work associated with the manufacturing, maintenance, and demilitarization of ammunition, explosives, and ammunition components, passing on instructions received from supervisor, demonstrated work procedures, checked work for compliance and provided status reports, and ensure needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort
Frequently lifts objects weighing 30 to 40 pounds. Some assignments require lifts above 60 pounds at a production pace. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. May pull or push hand trucks weighing several hundred pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a set pace and rhythm for long periods.
Working Conditions
The work is usually performed indoors and outdoors in covered areas or passageways, which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated. Some operations cause uncomfortable steam and heat in the work areas. Operators are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead, or conductive composition. They wear protective closing such as specially treated coveralls, respirators, and goggles on many assignments. They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in powder areas. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fires. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea.
