Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
Plan, direct, and execute national campaigns to convey complex information concerning programs, research on program-related areas, responsibilities, and activities of the Department
Advise senior program officials, the Secretary's Representatives and State Coordinators on the public affairs impact of various policies and programmatic decisions made by those officials.
Establish and maintain effective liaisons with news media representatives and serve as a central point for receipt of press inquiries.
Respond to information requests from the news media and specialized and general publics on the Department's programs in written and oral form.
Develop and disseminate information concerning the activities of the Department through newspapers, radio, television or other information media and to all field office public/consumer information officers.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Planning, directing and executing media campaigns to convey information on Agency or Organization programs.; AND
-Responding to information requests from news media and the general public pertaining to Agency or Organization's program.; AND
-Direct special events and other activities intended to develop interest in Agency or Organization programs.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-14 you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
