Duties
Distributes and balances workload; ensures timely accomplishment of assigned work; monitors status and progress of work on a daily basis; maintains records of work accomplishments.
Instructs employees on tasks and job requirements; develops written instructions as necessary; answers questions regarding procedures policies, and directives.
Maintains general ledger accounts, and performs administrative and technical functions to ensure the integrity of the general ledger.
Reviews and processes unusual or difficult accounting transactions ensuring the propriety and validity of supporting documentation, and determining the appropriate account and methodology for processing.
Responds to complex questions from customers or lower level technicians regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures.
Prepares account status reports performing monthly reconciliation of the general and subsidiary accounts to assure balancing with computerized reports and/or manual records.
Analyzes and prepares special reports on the causes of recurring adjustment actions; determines the cause of processing errors or problems and recommends corrective procedures.
Ensures accuracy, propriety, and legality of accounting transactions through extensive review of documents.

- Time after Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have served 3 months after latest competitive appointment in the Federal service.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience is defined as: applying knowledge of accounting methods; generating transactions in order to validate, reconcile, balance, and adjust records and reports.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service.
Education
GS-07 Substitution of Education for Experience: I have successfully completed One (1) year of graduate education that may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement when education is directly related to the position being filled. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
