About the Position: You will serve as Natural Resource Program Manager for a large multiple-use lake office. This position involves planning, coordinating, and directing the execution of complex natural resource and recreation programs. You will be responsible for overall management and maintenance of park and recreation areas.
Duties
Oversees the shoreline management, real estate, and operations and maintenance contract programs for the J. Strom Thurmond Project Office.
Plan and develop programs for all shoreline management and lease administration activities, coordinating closely with community stakeholders.
Plan and conduct public involvement to obtain input on shoreline programs.
Recommends approval or disapproval for proposed real estate activities or developments in marinas, parks, wildlife management areas, utility corridors, etc.
Establish and manage continuing program of land and water patrols and inspections to prevent unauthorized use, trespass or destruction of property, and ensure visitor compliance with usage rules and regulations.
Coordinate operation and management of recreation facilities, including campground, picnic areas, boat launching ramps, marinas, historical sites, overlooks, and visitor/information center(s).
Provide for visitor safety and protection through the inspection of facilities to ensure they are free from hazards.
Supervise all personnel engaged in the management, operation, and maintenance of lands and water.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A valid State issued Driver's License is required.
- A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 10% may be required.
- Required to operate motor vehicles up to 7500 GVW.

Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Program Manager:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance and directing complex natural resource and recreation programs; assisting in the development of natural resource protection programs such as fish and wildlife management, forestry and vegetation management and fire protection; and assisting in the management of shorelines and lease administration activities.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11 or above.
