This position is located with the Division of Information Technology at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, New Mexico. The primary purpose is to operate the Service Unit Switchboard telephone system and/or monitors associated equipment such as radios, a centralized medical gas, fire and patient alarms systems, paging systems, and security surveillance.

Duties

Receives all incoming and outgoing local and long distance commercial or government calls. Performs routine tasks required in the operation of the switchboard console Uses exceptional telephone courtesy and tact in dealing with a diversity of callers which may sometimes be under difficult and stressful circumstances Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Privacy Act, The Joint Commission, Indian Health Service and Service Unit policy and procedures Provides direct factual information on routine matters such as hospital visiting hours, clinic appointment system, and other requested information. Responds to inquiries on inpatient patient condition to the appropriate nursing station, nursing supervisor, doctor or in accordance to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Responds to health center emergency alerts by paging overhead Maintains a current directory of staff personnel, administration and medical callback duty schedules and listing of assigned pager or cell phone numbers

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: Successfully completed 2 year of education above high school -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: progressively responsible general experience in clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Time In Grade: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
