You will serve as a LOFTER in the REPAIR DEPARTMENT, HULL DIVISION, SHIPFITTER SHOP of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will work from blueprints, table of offsets, and other design information, lays out ship lines to full-scale dimension or to reduce scale. You will work from blueprints, drawings, Production Department Drawing (PDD), Engineering Services Request (ESR), Design Memorandum (DM), Liaison Action Request (LAR), ect. to develop CAD drawings and the development of automated part programs. You will develop, program and operate Numerically (NC) abrasive water-jet cutting machine and plasma/oxy-fuel cutting machine. You will work from blueprints, drawings and templates to lay out and cut submarine structural parts and components. You will shape metal pieces and assemble components to form required submarine structural components and parts. You will perform related duties including quality control coordination tasks require to ensure the quality of products/services resulting form the work performed.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may require travel worldwide at which time additional medical screening may be required.
  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain an IT-II designation.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Works aboard ships and submarines and within industrial production shops which may lead to exposure to fumes, electrical shock, flying objects, excessive noise, and other adverse environmental conditions.
  • My be required to work at various heights from ladders, scaffolding, buckets, mechanize hi-lifts and platforms etc., as well as in confines spaces such as tank and trunks.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION SUCH AS: Ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including utilizing Computer Aid Drawing (CAD) software, and interpreting blueprints, drawings, instructions, specifications, sketches etc. Ability to perform the full range of tasks including utilizing abrasive water-jet cutter, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and welding process. Ability to perform some tasks including performing rip-out, alteration, reparation, installation of submarine superstructures, and making templates for all metal structural parts of the ship; working from blueprints, tables and mold loft floor plan. Ability to perform common tasks including utilizing submarine lofting techniques and technical practices, and utilizing precision measuring instruments Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
