About the Position: Serves as the Joint Exercise Planning and Training Specialist for USSOUTHCOM operational and/or foreign military interaction exercises utilizing the joint training system continuum to ensure USSOUTHCOM is prepared to execute its assigned missions in support of U.S. national military strategy and the Command's Campaign Plan, located at Headquarters, United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), in Miami, Florida.
This is a TERM position NTE 5 Years.
Duties
Conduct research and analysis using analytical methods and techniques from a variety of sources and materials in order to reach conclusions, make determinations and provide sound recommendations.
Understanding of the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) to help manage travel program requirements related to exercise planning and training programs.
Train and assist members of the staff to plan and coordinate requirements for complex scenarios including the joint staff, other combatant commands, military services, and non-government, international, multi-national and other USG agencies.
Uses judgment to interpret and adapt guidance to develop training/exercise objectives, design requirements, and workflow to each specific exercise or project.
Assists in the development of new approaches to the training and exercise program and provide recommendation to refine the guidelines provided to USSOUTHCOM by the Joint Staff.

- This is a drug testing position. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes designing, adapting, modifying, and preparing formal reports, design surveys, and other data collection methods to ensure understanding by target audience to design and deliver of professional staff training and exercises to include the delivery of formal reports on those projects to senior leaders within the command both orally and in writing. Experience in the joint staff operations and the joint training processes with expertise in Joint Training Policy and Guidance for the Armed Forces. Experience in the planning and execution of the training and exercise programs for the development of the program objective memorandum (POM) justification, development of measures effectiveness (MOE), management and final reconciliation of complex funding structures used in joint training and exercise notably the Joint Training, Exercise, and Evaluation Program (JTEEP), Joint Exercise Transportation Program (JETP). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
