About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Assist in coordinating and scheduling live fire range activities and training exercises. Perform onsite safety compliance surveys and inspections of ranges and training areas. Conduct range control operations in accordance with regulations, guidance and safety standards. Provide direct and immediate feedback and advise on range safety and related range safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires employees to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position has been designated "Weather Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) of 5% may be required.

Performing inspections of overall live firing range control operations, 2.) Handling the allocation of resources, scheduling of range/training areas, 3.) Communicating direct and immediate instruction of range safety regulations and training requirements, 4.) Utilizing two-way communications to open and close weapons training facilities/areas and coordinate emergency responding personnel.
