About the Position: This position is with Directorate Emergency Services (DES) Law Enforcement located at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Duties
Supervise guards and police officers performing law enforcement duties.
Prevent, detect and investigate violations of law, rules and regulations.
Develop plans for specific police response to emergencies and force protection planning.
Prepare reports, forms and documents in support of local, state, federal and military law enforcement.
Ensure assigned personnel properly execute law enforcement.
Develop employee performance standards.
Prepare written instructions and procedures for work standards.
Supervise operations to ensure effective police efforts.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period is required, unless previously completed.
- One-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).
- Must work rotating shifts to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required, including recall for emergency overtime.
- This position is designated mission essential.
- Must be able to occasionally travel (10%) to attend workshops, training, or seminars.
- Must wear a prescribed uniform while on duty. Be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical/psychiatric evaluation (physical, emotional, and mental stability, etc.).
- Must pass a physical agility test within the of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Must possess or be able to obtain, and maintain, a valid state issued driver's license.
- Must successfully graduate from the Department of Army Police Academy.
- Must be able to maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
- Required to meet proficiency in specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense.
- Must be qualified and certified in the use of the chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and RADAR gun.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid.
- Position is designated as a Key Position IAW AR 690-8. - Civilians in key positions must not be subject to being recalled to active duty. Position may not be filled by Ready Reservist.
- New Law Requires Removal of Federal Law Enforcement Officers Convicted of Felonies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes : 1) leading a workforce that ensures security and safety; 2) planning and prioritizing work assignments; 3) providing input on the development of performance standards, hiring actions or disciplinary actions of a security workforce; and 4) performing day to day police and law enforcement operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
