The primary purpose of the position is to perform a variety of duties, with particular emphasis given to the production and maintenance of all graphics on the campus of the National Gallery. This position is in the Department of Exhibition Design, Office of Graphic Design and Production (PXD) working under the Head of Graphic Design and Production.
Duties
Uses multiple techniques in the production of exhibition graphics, permanent collection didactic information, and signage requests.
Works closely with PXD graphic designers in the production and installation of exhibition graphics including didactics (text panels, exhibition titles, labels).
Collaborates with the Permanent Collection Coordinator, PXD to design, print and manage permanent collection label requests for galleries in the West and East buildings, and the Sculpture Garden.
Responsible for the organization and maintenance of digital label files for the permanent collection and temporary installations.
Mixes silkscreen inks and other paints, to match wall latex paints, or any color required for presentation.
Responsible for taking proper precautions when working with materials used in the silkscreen studio.
Responsible for the upkeep of the space and cleaning up the area and the materials used in all production processes.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1010-09. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is at least one year of experience (combined), equivalent in responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service, performing a variety of duties, with particular emphasis given to the production and maintenance of all graphics for an arts-based organization.

Ability to mix silkscreen inks and apply them skillfully to meet signage needs.
Skill in using common art media to perform elementary assignments that are developmental in nature or that are limited in variety and don’t require significant subject matter knowledge.
Demonstrated knowledge of SketchUp modeling, graphic and architectural tools .
Ability to mix ink and paint, in a variety of media.
