THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1910000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard.

Duties

As a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32), WG-5703-9, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements. Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc. Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). Devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance. Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. Perform the same type and level of work as performed within the unit.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ? 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - Minimum Rank of SGT - Maximum Rank of MSG GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG 9 Level MUST possess at least 18 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds; experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches; experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades; experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
