About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Technician in the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), Anchorage, AK. This position provides administrative support to the Reception-Administration ControlDesk (RACD), Record Maintenance & Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applicants.
Duties
Provide administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance and Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applicants.
Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS); muster applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies, administer pre-oath briefings, also brief applicants on MEPS procedures.
Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military
service.
Fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are classifiable (acceptable).
Verify applicants' Emergency Data Records. Note and correct any discrepancies when differences occur.
Screen applicants' records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.
Operate a keyboard to record alpha and numeric data reflecting all aspects of the qualifications and enlistment data for entrants to all
branches of the Armed Services.
Assist other sections at the MEPS when required, to include assisting with the preparation of transportation orders, delayed entry program orders for active duty and Reserve personnel assigned to all military Services.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be a qualified typist.
- Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Employees will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission
requirements.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One full year of experience which includes 1) AND EITHER 2) 3) or 4): 1) Assists with processing human resources personnel data. AND EITHER 2) Maintaining paper and electronic files OR 3) Reviewing and/or editing documents; OR 4) Providing information to callers and visitors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Selective Placement Factor:
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
