This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of the Principal Deputy Director, Washington, DC. NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge, and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the state and local levels.
Duties
Serves as a policy advisor to the Office of the Principal Deputy Director, providing the full range of policy guidance and technical and administrative support services.
Provides advice and guidance to resolve, implement, and/or manage criminal justice program or policy issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach or methodology.
Makes major recommendations and decisions related to criminal justice policy formulation and long-range planning.
Works closely with the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Principal Deputy Director to implement strategic priorities.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
Makes major recommendations and/or decisions related to significant internal and external criminal justice program and policy issues affecting the overall organization, such as those involving political, social, technological, and economic conditions.
Makes major recommendations and/or decisions related to criminal justice policy formulation and long-range planning.
Presents findings and/or recommendations on complex issues or problems impacting major criminal justice programs.
Plans and manages special projects for major agency criminal justice organization or program issues with broad impact, such as those on an agency or nation-wide level.
