This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: You will serve as a Medical Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), with the Denver MEPS, the duty location of this position is in Denver, Colorado.
Duties
Verify and capture applicant biometrics to in-process applicants.
Perform physical observation, collection, and processing of urine specimen, to include chain of custody and control processing.
Set up and maintain medical equipment such as: audiometers, stereoscopic vision testers, bio-acoustic simulators, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, laboratory centrifuges, EKG machines, and blood pressure testing equipment
Address applicant questions regarding diseases, illnesses, treatment procedures, etc. using appropriate medical terminology.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successful completion of background investigation.
- Applicant must use restrictive and protective clothing (such as surgical gloves); applicant cannot wear exposing footwear.
- Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
- Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: taking blood pressure, conducting vision and/or audiology screening, measuring and recording height and weight of patients, ear lavage and collecting and/or processing of urine specimens; performing phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for HIV and/or other laboratory tests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry and Nursing.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Certification: A phlebotomy certificate is desired but not required.
Selective Placement Factor: This position is only open to female applicants due to the requirements for processing female applicants for military service.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
