About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 66 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This position will be filled temporary.

Duties

As a Computer Assistant, you will: Quickly assess and determine the mission criticality of each request for assistance to prioritize help tickets. Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art IT developments to make recommendations for upgrades or conversion to new hardware/software. Identify and diagnose Enterprise Data Center ( EDC) network issues/problems. Upgrade/prepare new instructions/procedures/guidance for EDC operations. Schedule and oversee maintenance of EDC equipment Diagnose, isolate and resolve causes of problems within the data center environment.

Requirements

  • May be required to receive calls after duty hours, holidays, weekends, and may perform uncommon tours of duty including shift work to cover weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

**Telework eligible position - Position has an official duty location of North Chicago, IL and is eligible for Situational Telework at the discretion of the Command. This position is NOT eligible for remote work (remote duty location). If telework is approved, selectees will be required to report to their official duty location as outlined in their telework agreement.** Temporary Appointment: If you are a current permanent Army employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion or temporary reassignment. The position is temporary not to exceed one (1) year with provisions to extend in increments of up to one (1) year for a total of (5) years. This position may be converted to permanent without further competition for current Army employees. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution: You may substitute specialized experience with one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Information Technology, Engineering, Business. (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application package.) Combination of Experience and Education Substitution: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages.
