This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The HQ, U.S. MEPCOM, North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces and through its 66 military processing locations determines if applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the service.

Duties

As a Computer Assistant, you will: Quickly assess and determine the mission criticality of each request for assistance to prioritize help tickets. Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art IT developments to make recommendations for upgrades or conversion to new hardware/software. Identify and diagnose Enterprise Data Center (EDC) network issues/problems. Upgrade/prepare new instructions/procedures/guidance for EDC operations. Schedule and oversee maintenance of EDC equipment. Diagnose, isolate and resolve causes of problems within the data center environment.

**Telework eligible position - Position has an official duty location of North Chicago, IL and is eligible for Situational Telework at the discretion of the Command. This position is NOT eligible for remote work (remote duty location). Experience: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled including: Diagnosing IT user software and hardware problems to assist in resolving issues; Accessing network servers to identify and resolve potential problems; Reviewing history of IT hardware/software issues and making recommendations for improvements; Developing guides and training aids and delivering training to system users. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution: You may substitute specialized experience with one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Information Technology, Engineering, Business. (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application package.) Combination of Experience and Education Substitution: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application package).
