The incumbent primarily serves as the Program Support Assistant (GS-7) to the Homeless Veterans Comprehensive Program (HVCP) and provides some administrative support to Social Work Service (SWS) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, Texas
Duties
Collection, compilation and/or tracking of data and statistical information.
Assist in planning, review and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies.
Perform base analysis and generate a variety of reports.
Review documents, reports for completeness and ensure date entry is complete and accurate.
Use software applications to draw information to prepare/assist in preparation of reports.
Track all Veterans who have applied for Homeless Veterans Comprehensive Program (HVCP).
Maintain and manage databases which contain a wide variety of Veteran specific information.
Preparing, modifying and issuing, tracking, reviewing and processing invoices for HVCP.
Respond to payment inquiries or discrepancies from VA approved vendors.
Develop and maintain financial spreadsheets, ensuring appropriate utilization of funds and making certain that there are not budget deficits and be responsible for reporting this information to the Supervisor.
Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials/personnel to support the policy development and/or technical activities of the organization.
Assembles and summarizes data, background information and other materials from other sources.
Arranges travel, orders supplies, equipment, etc.
Performs typing work, whether from voice recordings or written material on either a manual or electric typewriter, and/or using word processing software and equipment.
Assist in the performance of manpower analysis, workload studies, or comparable work to meet the manpower analysis needs of the Mental Health Care Line Program.
Perform a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work performed within the Homeless Veteran Comprehensive Program.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the Agency.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/23/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience working Homeless Veterans within a medical/psychiatric environment; knowledge about housing and community resources. Note: This experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The incumbents work requires walking throughout the MEDVAMC, offsite homeless locations, standing, bending, stooping and carrying items such as books, papers, and files. The incumbent must possess a current and unrestricted driver's license. S/He has the ability to drive in the community on freeways, highways, and surface streets in moderate to heavy traffic for several hours a day from moderate to high distances as needed. Incumbent shall adhere to all VHA/MEDVAMC directives and training requirements when operating a government vehicle to carry out official duties when deemed necessary.
Physically being able to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds. Working in the community in extreme heat or cold. Walking a moderate to high distance to complete required tasks.
