This Supervisory Security Guard position is located at the Fort Yuma Service Unit, Security Department, Winterhaven, California. The primary purpose of the position is to provide full technical and administrative supervision for crime prevention programs, anti-terrorism/force protection program, security surveys and inspections in support. This position reports to the Director of Quality Management.
Duties
Note: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Serves as the supervisory leader of a Fort Yuma Service Unit security team.
Works closely and serves as "Back-up" in Emergency Preparedness situations.
Assistance in supporting and compliance of Safety Plan as well as Emergency Preparedness Plan.
Develops plans and procedures along with other supervisors consistent with appropriate security regulations and requirements.
Prepares work schedules for all security officers to provide for adequate coverage; develops security policies and procedures in accordance with Indian Health Service (IHS), Phoenix Area IHS (PAIHS) and Fort Yuma Service Unit (FYSU); approves leave and training requests.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-8: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Planning and implementing security/protective programs; prepare security related reports; write/update department policies and procedures. Supervise security personnel; prepare staff schedules; assign work to staff; resolve staff complaints; enforce minor disciplinary measures; identifies staff training needs. Serve as a principle advisor on security related matters; patrolling grounds/buildings; enforcing security rules and regulations.
Education: Successfully completed study at an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying in the amount and level specified.
Investigation of Fitness: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidate's honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. Such investigations will be conducted under the security requirements of the hiring agency.
Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Agencies may establish additional, job-related physical or medical requirements provided that the specific position involves the arduous or hazardous duties to which the requirements relate.
All positions involving Federal motor vehicle operation carry the additional medical requirements specified in 5 CFR 930 and the "General Policies and Instructions".
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
