This position is located Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operations (DOL-3), Base Ketchikan (DOL), Ketchikan, AK.

Duties

You will serve as a Purchasing Agent, providing support for Base Ketchikan and all Areas of Responsibility (AOR) field units, and adhere to Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) for the acquisition of supplies and services and construction to include the following: generic administrative supplies and office equipment; computer, electronics and telecommunications equipment; technical and maintenance services; engineering hardware and support services; medical services & equipment; recreational equipment; construction equipment; serve as a purchasing agent, responsible for the acquisition by simplified acquisitions and micro purchasing procedures of supplies; computer and electronic or telecommunications equipment; technical and maintenance services; medical services and equipment, etc.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes: negotiates and awards purchases, utilize modified negotiation procedures, utilize full range of simplified acquisition procedures, develop price and delivery schedules, prepare, issue and evaluate solicitations, develop terms and conditions for a variety of services and supply orders, prepare statement of fact relating to mistakes in quotes and protest before and after award.As a rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to purchasing. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
