These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Commandant, Deputy Commandant for Operations, Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), Portsmouth, VA, Alameda, CA, and Washington, DC.

Duties

You will monitor, coordinate, and evaluate complex and highly sensitive criminal investigations and operations conducted by various CGIS offices to determine if proper investigative requirements and techniques have been utilized.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The applicant is subject to pre-appointment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-13 level you must have completed at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include:  Conducting inquiries into possible violations of laws, rules, regulations, mismanagement, fraud, gross waste of funds; Developing and implementing investigative plans for complex investigations and projects; Making recommendations to management/senior leaders regarding actions they should take to address violations of law, regulations, and other serious problems, abuses, or deficiencies; Identifying resources required for each investigation, including taskings to assist other investigative agencies.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
