You will serve as a Senior Scientist/Engineer in the Research and Development Group, Research Department, Optical Sciences and Directed Energy BR of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will maintain an awareness of long-term gaps faced by the fleet in order to understand the areas where new technology development will have the greatest impact on warfighting capabilities. You will develop a research program in the Optical Sciences and write and submit research proposals to appropriate funding stakeholder organizations. You will interact across academia and DoD laboratories to build collaborative efforts with other researchers and maintain relationships with potential transition program offices to build advocacy for ongoing research efforts. You will publish and present research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. You will lead small to medium-sized teams in the execution of technical research programs in Optics and Directed Energy. You will contribute to a leadership culture that promotes a sense of cooperation while maintaining mission focus.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (DP-04) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Demonstrating ability to successfully develop and execute a basic and/or applied research program; 2) Demonstrating ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to a wide-range of working level and senior team members and stakeholders, to include writing research proposals and communicating research results; 3) Demonstrating ability to work with various stakeholders on defining research goals and plans to achieve those goals; 4) Demonstrating knowledge of relationships with research funding sponsors. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
