The VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one (1) Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) to work in Radiology/Imaging Services in Berkley, WV. The Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) is a trained professional who uses complex computerized x-ray equipment to generate cross sectional images of the human anatomy which help radiologists in diagnosing diseases and disorders.
Duties
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computed Tomography) position will report to the Radiology Service Line. Independently performs but no limited to routine to moderately complex radiographic, computed tomography examinations and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) procedures. Exams are achieved by using Diagnostic x-ray equipment such as fluoroscopic units, direct digital units, general diagnostic units, computed tomography and MRI scanners. Exams are performed with and without the use of contrast material. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies to bring out proper diagnosis and treatment.
Qualifications
Must be a Citizen of the United States.
Must have completed a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a radiologic technology program , evidenced by a certificate or an associates degree, accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology. Certification in Computed Tomography preferred.
Certified in basic cardiac life support (BCLS) is preferred.

English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d).
Preferred Experience: The employee is certified/licensed by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) with R, CT, and MR designations and has demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills abilities, and other "core competencies" associated with current radiologic technology practice. Capable of Basic Life Support interventions if needed and maintains a current BLS certificate from the American Red Cross. The incumbent operates the following modalities: Computerized Tomography (CT), General Radiology (x-ray), Fluoroscopy (C-arm and General Fluoroscopy), and Bone Density. The incumbent in this position is required to participate in the on-call schedule and travel up to 50%.Computed Tomography (CT): This specialized modality requires specific knowledge of cross-sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans. The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of particular interest to the physician.
Diagnostic radiologic procedures and examinations (e.g., x-ray, fluoroscopy, and bone density) in hospitals or clinics are performed under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers. The objective of the examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body. They prepare and administer contrast media and medications in accordance with State and Federal regulations. All diagnostic radiologic technologists must be knowledgeable in Digital Radiography (DR) systems and components and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-10.
