As a Government Information Specialist at the GS-0306-9/11, you will be part of Chicago District Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible in the execution of FOIA duties with the responsibility for processing and making recommended determinations on FOIA requests for HQ agency records and information, appeals from FOIA determinations.
Duties
Reviews and Interprets Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests or appeals to determine compliance with the FOIA and the agency's FOIA regulations.
Contacts the requester to determine the precise nature of the records requested and to request missing documents and assigns the request to the simple, complex or expedited track for processing.
Inputs the FOIA history of the requests or appeals into the FOIA tracking system (FTS).
Participates in the resolution of complaints from requester and the public concerning FOIA processing delays and other matters by enlisting the assistance of the responsible field FOIA component.
Participates in the preparation of the quarterly and annual FOIA reports and other reports as required and gathers information to draft responses to congressional inquiries concerning constituent FOIA requests.
Remains aware of the confidentiality prohibitions of certain EEOC enforced statues and the Privacy Act requirement when responding to requests for record or information.

Qualifications
For the GS-9: You must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service, such as: reviewing and interpreting the Freedom of Information Act laws, rules and regulations and Privacy Act laws, determine the nature of records requests, track records process request and appeals.
OR a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B. or J.D., if related
Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-9 level.
For the GS-11: You must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, such as: Analyzing and reviewing the Freedom of Information Act laws, rules and regulations and Privacy Act laws, contacts requester and determines the nature of records requests, if required, track and input records process request and appeals.
OR a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree, OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.M., if related.
Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-9 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-09/11 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level.
