The Congressional Research Service (CRS) seeks Research Assistants to support research tasks across a broad range of domestic social policy issues and program areas. This position is located in the Congressional Research Service, Domestic Social Policy Division (DSP).  The position description number for this position is 308062. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. 

Duties

The Research Assistant (RA) provides research support tasks across a broad range of domestic policy and social program issues including: (1) Children and Families issues, especially as related to low-income populations; (2) Domestic Security and Immigration, including crime policy and border security; (3) Education and Labor, including training and the workforce; (4) Health Insurance and Financing, including Medicare, Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and private health insurance; (5) Health Services, including, the health care workforce, and public health; and (6) Income Security, including Social Security, pensions, disability and unemployment.

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. • Knowledge of domestic social policy**• Ability to apply knowledge of the analytic research process in a disciplinary area relevant to domestic social policy**• Ability to identify, exploit, and manipulate research resources and tools to perform research tasks pertinent to a discipline relevant to domestic social policy**• Ability to prepare written research materials related to a discipline relevant to domestic social policy**• Ability to convey information orally through briefings, consultations, and other presentations• Ability to collaborate• Ability to exercise objectivity in all phases of research, including written and oral presentations• Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing

Education

Basic Requirements

 Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Foreign Education– Education completed outside the U.S. must be deemed equivalent to conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment. If your college/university is outside the U.S., your transcripts must be accompanied by a report from a credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE)Failure to submit a foreign education evaluation report will result in disqualification of your application.
