About the Position: You will serve as an Equipment Specialist (Biomedical) within the Naval Medical Center, DFA Director of Administration Management, Biomedical Repair, San Diego, California

Duties

Perform maintenance and support for systems including radiology, laboratory, patient monitoring, or pulmonary. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections of medical equipment including visual, electrical safety, calibration, part verification and part replacement. Manage the maintenance shop operations including scheduling, performing, and documenting medical maintenance services. Focuses on quality aspects of biomedical maintenance processes based on an effective quality management program. Manage all medical equipment-related Medical Materiel Quality Control incidents, recalls and warnings. Performs software diagnosis to determine failures between software and hardware and make corrections. Utilize property accounting and maintenance database systems to track work assignments. Search database systems and organize information to create statistical trends.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25lbs.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Electronics and electricity including analog and intermediate digital electronics to test, calibrate, maintain, and repair biomedical equipment and moderately complex biomedical instrumentation systems, (2) setup and use of standard and advanced level test equipment to perform precise and detailed analysis characteristics of equipment and initiate repairs, reconfiguration, or redesign of moderately complex medical systems, and (3) evaluate practical and technical information from manufacturers, contract specifications, manuals, and historical data in order to perform analysis required to make effective recommendations concerning operation, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Experience identifying and repairing medical equipment, (2) Experience performing medical equipment preventative maintenance and calibration, and (3) Experience planning and assigning work based on priority, available resources, and staff capabilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
