Duties

Duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-06 or GS-07 grade level. The full performance level is GS-07. Manages overall Branch administrative services and provides guidance to lower level clerical staff on procedures and requirements. Personally assists in the development and execution of the Branch operating budget and related fiscal functions. Responsible for Branch consistency in the use of a wide range of administrative directives and procedures. Collaborates with Division Administrative Officers and Branch counterparts to establish and evaluate internal procedures, resolve problems and improve administrative operational efficiency. Uses a variety of software programs (e.g., word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, electronic mail), standard financial management and payroll systems, personnel systems, websites, internet/intranet, and agency and local applications. Develops correspondence, reports, labels, graphics, charts, forms, statistical tables, etc. Receives visitors and telephone calls; determines nature of the call or business; and uses judgment to refer inquiries to the supervisor or appropriate staff member.

Minimum Qualifications for the GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in office operations and budgeting, processing incoming and outgoing mail, utilizing office software, composing correspondence and/or handling time keeping for an office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Public Administration, or in a related Administrative Science or Administrative Studies field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative support functions associated with budgeting, information flow, personnel and time keeping and experience using a financial management system and/or managing a company purchase card. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Public Administration, or in a related Administrative Science or Administrative Studies field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Selective Placement Factor: Requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Budget AdministrationClericalCommunicationsComputer LiteracyFinancial Management Systems Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05 or GS-06). NOTE: In a one-grade interval series, experience at the second lower grade level can be credited for in-service applicants when there is no position in the normal line of progression that is one grade lower than the position being filled.
