This position is located at the Fort Yuma Service Unit, Winterhaven, CA and serves within Quality Management Program under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Officer. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive management of the Fort Yuma Service Unit Infection Prevention and Control Program, Employee Health Program, and Safety Program.

Duties

Serves as the Infection Control Officer and the chairperson for the facility Infection Control Committee. Responsible for providing facility staff (Medical, Dental, allied practitioners, administrative and support employees, students, and volunteers) with infection prevention education at the time of new-hire and annually thereafter. Prepares and presents monthly reports to the Infection Control Committee, Administration, and for the Governing. Manages and implements the facility Employee Health Program for all employees of the medical center. At initial hire and on an annual basis, advises all new, permanent, and contractor health care workers of any required and due immunizations or screenings. **This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan/Merit Promotion Plan (ESEP/MPP) procedures. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing education program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. LICENSURE For all grade levels and positions, applications must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonthwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing audits for nursing program for quality of care, immunization requirements, and safety program. Providing new employee orientation for the Infection Control program and reviewing policies and procedures; OR Education: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing. Transcripts must be submitted. GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide management of the emergency management, safety & occupational health program by directing, monitoring, providing oversight and evaluation processes and activities involving Infection Control, Employee Health and Safety programs throughout the healthcare facility; construct, implement, facilitate clinical educational needs of staff adhering to nursing principles, practices and processes; OR Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
