This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
Duties
The selected AUSA will be dedicated to investigating and prosecuting fraud committed against a range COVID-19 pandemic relief programs, including the Paycheck Protection Program, the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, and the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. The selected AUSA will coordinate and work on investigations with more than 15 federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, IRS - Criminal Investigation, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, and many others.
Since March 2020, the U.S. Attorney's Office has proactively partnered and coordinated with the law enforcement community in Ohio, and conducted outreach to the public and institutions that were likely to be targets of COVID-19 related fraud. The successful applicant will be able to work equally well individually and in a team setting, and will possess the judgment and skill necessary to succeed as part of a fast-paced and aggressive prosecutive team. The position will be part of the USAO NDOH's Criminal Division.
The selected AUSA will prepare and present cases for prosecution, to include preparing grand jury authorization requests, prosecution summaries, and indictment recommendations; preparing indictments, motions, pleadings, and briefs; conducting pretrial discovery and motions practice; developing testimonial and documentary evidence for trial; and conducting every aspect of trial preparation and trial presentation in federal criminal trials in jurisdictions across the United States.
The AUSA will also handle non-litigation matters that arise in relation to the Division's mission of investigating and prosecuting cases. These non-litigation duties might include participating in strategy and coordination meetings; conducting legal trainings, public presentations, and other forms of outreach; meeting with interested persons regarding prosecutorial decisions; and other non-litigation duties.
Responsibilities will increase, and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
An ideal applicant will have a background or experience in one or more of the following areas: criminal prosecution, investigations, affirmative civil enforcement, or commercial litigation. Applicants will be expected to do their own legal research and writing and will be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent computer literacy skills, such as experience with e-discovery and e-litigation platforms, electronic court filing, and e-mail and word processing systems.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least three (3) full years of post-bar admission professional attorney experience.
United States citizenship is required.
