The primary purpose of this position is to perform work involved m the identification, examination, classification, acceptance, and disposition of a wide variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities.
Duties
- Receives, examines, verifies, and identifies a wide variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities
- Inspects stored/on-hand property for proper identification and usability conditions
- Receives, examines, and determines condition of items, components, and equipment to be turned in/removed
- Performs a broad range of materials handling assignments/activities. Uses and maintains tools and equipment.
- Operates electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches

- This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent(s) of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test. This was coordinated with Labor Relations Officer.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a limited range of parts and equipment, such as machine tools, office machines, electrical and electronic components, or medical supplies. Ability to interpret and apply instructions, specifications, technical manuals, operating manuals, drawings, and blueprints.
2. Knowledge of magnetic, spark, and chemical tests to test metal components of unusable equipment for salvage purposes. Skill in operating one or more electric, diesel, gasoline, or LPG forklift trucks with a capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a lift reach of up to 168 inches to move, stack, unstack, load, and unload materials in and about warehouses, storage areas, loading docks, and vehicles.
3. Knowledge of electronic and mechanical devices to separate equipment components prior to testing. Skill in using hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, and other hand tools to unpack or disassemble equipment.
4. Knowledge of safety and security practices and procedures. Knowledge of warehouse configurations, storage requirements for particular commodities, and storage documentation requirements
5. Knowledge of supply documentation, code numbers and coding practices, printouts, material conditions, and stock numbering systems. Ability to identify and sort a limited number of basic metals such as copper, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and bronze.
6. Knowledge of accepted warehousing functions, material handling techniques, and inventory procedures (e g, material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation) and preparation of inventory and production reports.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time, and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines. The materials handling work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weightlifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Moderate physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on a year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and equipment and to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, cranes, conveyor lines. For materials handling duties, employee may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas or exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas. May be required to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided.
