About the Position: Serves as a Environmental Protection Specialist at the Defense Health Agency, Small Market and Stand Alone Organization (SSO), Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.
Duties
Develop goals and objectives that integrate Bioenvironmental Engineering (BE) Flight and Operational Environmental Assessment objectives.
Plan and manage assigned programs for environmental quality.
Develop instructions and procedures establishing installation environmental policy.
Perform periodic inspections, evaluations and surveys of facilities, equipment and operations and identifies deficiencies in programs and procedures and reports deficiencies to base, federal, and state authorities as required.
Evaluate a variety of complex safety and occupational health problems and perform risk assessment of the hazards.
Develop sampling, analysis, and monitoring of plans and protocols to ensure environmental compliance.
Identify deficiencies and develops instructions for corrective action.
Serve as the primary program manager to ensure compliance with Federal and State Safe Drinking Water Act and other water quality requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position requires the Level 2 state water certification which can be completed within 1 year of getting hired.
- This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing environmental programs to ensure federal/state compliance requirements are met; preparing plans, technical guidance, policy statements, oral briefings and/or program directives for the integration of health requirements into environmental programs; and implementing all aspects of the water quality and compliance monitoring program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
