This Range Technician (Weeds) position will provide leadership to project related to controlling weed and invasive plants across the Lakeview District. The office is located in Lakeview, Oregon. Lakeview is within the Great Basin and the majority of the District is considered Sage-Steppe habitat. The elevation of the district varies from 4,500 to 8,000 feet.
Duties
Serve as team lead for the invasive plant management crew, with responsibility for lining up day to day work for crews throughout the summer months.
Prepare specific weed treatment strategies and pesticide use proposals utilizing an integrated management approach employing biological, mechanical, and chemical control methods.
Use knowledge of herbicide and pesticide uses and types of spray equipment to safely mix, maintain, and calibrate herbicides and pesticides for use in rangeland environments.
Provide oversight in the field on a daily basis to crew members as they perform surveys, monitoring and treatments (manual, biological, and chemical) of invasive plants.
Prepare project reports; collect, review, summarize, and evaluate data; and keep project records, ensuring all records keeping is complete and accurate.

Qualifications
This is a TERM position, not to exceed 4 years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify for the grade GS-07 you must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following:
1) Planning, organizing, and conducting weed management projects within rangeland environments to include providing work direction and guidance to crew members completing weed management tasks;
2) Preparing specific weed treatment plans and pesticide use proposals utilizing an integrated management approach that is in accordance with resource management plans, environmental assessments, cooperative agreements, safety plans, etc.;
3) Making field observations of range conditions, monitoring sites for weed population changes, and collecting data to document weed growth, mitigation, and control measures;
4) Safely mixing, maintaining, and calibrating herbicides and pesticides for use in rangeland environments;
5) Using Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and topographic maps at the 1:24,000 scale in order to map existing weed populations in rangeland environments.
