The Program Support Assistant position will serve within the Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) and Ambassador Service, Deputy Executive Director, VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Veterans Administration, (VISN 9), Department of Veterans Affairs, Nashville, TN.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to:
Ambassador Service:
Carries out required performance of this position as an Experience Assistant,
Ambassador Service to the CDCE and Ambassador Service office at TVHS.
Serves as the initial, as well as the final point of contact for guests entering and leaving the facility and is a key influence toward patient/public perception.
Performs customer service guest relations, shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, politeness respect and dignity to others.
Relates well to different people from varied backgrounds and different situations.
Receives, greets and direct callers over the telephone with precise clear instructions.
Provides clear detailed information about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel.
Provides general telephone and visitor referral services within both medical center campuses.
Directs Veterans, visitors, staff and refers callers to appropriate staff member based on specific requests or by determining the nature of the call.
Provides patient transport services which requires pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, and hospital bed, assists with morgue runs and other medical equipment.
Provides transport services to and from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Assists Veterans with in-person authentication of the My HealtheVet Program.
Motor Vehicle Operator:
Assists with transport of patients from their vehicles to admissions to their destinations; internally from ward-to-ward or ward to clinic; and finally, to discharge and their vehicle.
Provides coverage, as needed, for the transportation of Veteran patients both on campus and between campuses serviced by TVHS, under the authority of the Chief, CDCE and Ambassador Service.
Makes daily assignments for the drivers and ensures that all necessary trips are covered, reviewing drivers record for accuracy.
Uses judgment in making decisions where alternatives are determined by established methods, guidelines, and procedures for Volunteer Drivers daily.
Provides the service in the absence of CDCE staff or Volunteer Transportation (VTN) Program and services and demonstrates the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Performs other duties for patient transportation and coordination as assigned.

Qualifications
DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must have a valid have a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class C or higher) with passenger endorsement. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.)

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-4: You must have at least one (1) full year of progressively responsible general clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying general experience includes: Having a thorough knowledge regarding relevant functions of the medical center; having highly developed communication skills, in customer service and ability to interact with patients, visitors and staff; versed in the knowledge of the department, including tours of duty, safety rules, and policy and procedures related to operations; capable of functioning in a variety of stressful situations; skilled in typing, presenting neat and accurate work, and having a technical understanding of computer applications and equipment; must possess a valid state driver's license and meet physical standards requirements for motor vehicle operator. At this level the work will be performed with more supervision and guidance.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-4: You must have successfully completed two (2) years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One (1) year of full-time academic study is defined as thirty (30) semester hours, forty-five (45) quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately thirty-six (36) weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GS-4: Having the equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience, as described above. (NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required)
OR
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-5: have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in Federal service that equips you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Having a thorough knowledge regarding relevant functions of the medical center; having highly developed communication skills, in customer service and ability to interact with patients, visitors and staff; versed in the knowledge of the department, including tours of duty, safety rules, and policy and procedures related to operations; capable of functioning in a variety of stressful situations; skilled in typing, presenting neat and accurate work, and having a technical understanding of computer applications and equipment; having a complete knowledge of pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding use of a government vehicle; must possess a valid state driver's license and meet physical standards requirements for motor vehicle operator.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: GS-5: Four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: GS-5: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirement at the GS-05 level. Only education in excess of the first sixty (60) semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. For example: six (6) months of specialized experience and two (2) years of successfully completed education above the high school level would meet this requirement. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: The Program Support Assistant is required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and sitting at computer for long periods of time. The work is primarily physical with requires standing, walking bending, lifting, kneeling, and pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, medical beds, and other medical equipment. The work requires above average agility and dexterity.
