This position is located in the Business Office in the Parker Service Unit, Parker, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to function as Benefits Coordinator, assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources. Position reports to the Supervisory Health System Specialist.

Duties

Assures maximal identification of persons who have, or are eligible for alternate resources, by implmenting screening, referring and interviewing methods effectively Establishes eligibility of potential Medicare, eligible participates by working with the Social Security Administration, on both the local and national levels. Assists families and individuals in application for, and use all potential alternate resources. Verify third party eligibility of patients by contacting the various alternate resource programs/offices, i.e. Social Security, Department of Social Services, State Medical Assistance office, DES, County/State AHCCCS offices, and ETC. Interviews patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record and/or comunicates with Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record. Enters all information into RPMS, patient Registration System and prints appropriate forms to include face sheets, index cards, addressograph card and labels.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include: demonstrated experience working with a health care delivery system, responding to routine inquiries from patients, explaining multiple health service options; assessing and educating patients in regards to unique health services and program eligibility; assisting patients through the enrollment process for each benefit; screening and interviewing patients to obtain accurate biographical information; researching alternate resources, interpreting comprehensive rules and procedures for outside resources. GS-08:One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples include: certifying the eligibility requirements for health care benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Insurance, and similar resources provided by the medical facility; compiling data and writing reports; conducting comprehensive patient interviews to determine eligibility for alternate health insurance resources; providing recommendations to patients on the various health care benefit programs and eligibility criteria based on current health care laws and regulations; conducting extensive research and providing benefit updates involving changes in rules and regulations for alternate resources; assisting in settling controversial benefit issues. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
