Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a General Attorney-Advisor (Tort Claims), you will use your knowledge of and experience with the Office of the General Counsel to optimize business results and customer experience by: Advising and preparing legal opinions on all aspects of the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). Handling FTCA administrative claims (primarily medical malpractice), including performing legal research and analysis, drafting tort memoranda, and negotiating settlement of such claims, where appropriate. Provide litigation support to U.S. Attorneys offices around the country when complaints are filed in federal court, including preparing draft answers, motions, litigation reports, affidavits, briefs, or other pleadings appropriate to the defense of FTCA cases in federal district court and appellate court, in conformity with applicable rules and regulations. Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: Must have successfully completed a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited educational institution. AND Must have a current active bar membership from any State, territory, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, or Federal Court. AND For GS-15: Must have four (4) years of professional legal experience post bar admission with one year of experience equivalent to the GS-14 level Representing parties in commercial, regulatory, civil and related litigation matters; counseling large organizational clients, including senior leadership, on litigation strategy and options for resolving legal matters; assessing and resolving problems and complaints and identifying key issues for resolution to the General Counsel; and providing guidance to attorneys in other practice areas of law.
