Duties
Receive and relay incoming and outgoing communication of all types.
Select, complete, and route request for patient activities and treatment procedures, schedules appointments for patients with other medical services and instructs patients on preparation for examination and/or procedures.
Confirm eligibility for treatment and third-party insurance information.
Keep precise time and attendance records, takes inventory, places orders and keeps records of supplies.
Record a variety of Physician's orders involving patient activities, diets, treatments, tests, and medications, accurately transfers drug names, dosages, and times of administration to the appropriate forms used for dispensing the medication.
Receive and distribute mail to medical staff and patients. Performs lead functions for civilian staff in accordance with Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and Federal Employee guidelines.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes performs a full range of clerical duties, scheduling medical appointments for patients, utilizing an automated medical scheduling system, and verifying patient's eligibility for medical treatment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
