Position is located within the Engineering Service, Veteran Health Indiana, Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Construction and Maintenance Supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all in-house construction activities. Acts as the Supervisor for the WG10 Maintenance Mechanics of the in-house Construction Crew, supervising all personnel and activities.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Supervisory Duties: This position is fully responsible, technically and administratively, for managing the inhouse Construction Crew in the Facility Operations section of Engineering Service. Provide supervision of full performance, journeyman-level work in standard plumbing, pipefitting, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, flooring, and finishing, maintenance methods and techniques. Reviews work order requirements, reflecting structures to be constructed, installed, modified, altered, or repaired. Interprets and applied building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine material, tools, and equipment needed for the project and how or what repairs need to be made. Approve/disapprove leave, complete performance appraisals, recruit for vacancies or any other personnel action items. Responsible for recording on work orders all repaired data including time, parts, materials, and cost of items used. Non-Supervisory Duties: Project Coordinator for In-House Projects requiring day and night shift as needed per individual project requirement, may be after typical duty hours, and weekends/holidays to accomplish work that would ordinarily impede normal patient care operations. Demonstrate and oversee a team, utilizing a highly developed knowledge of carpentry, painting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and pipefitting principles to repair and maintain varied building. Constructs, alters, repairs, and maintains varied suites, and items where accuracy and fit are essential and structural soundness and appearance are important, such as interior and exterior walls, framework, doors, paneling, windows, and trim. Accomplishment of a variety of minor renovation and remodeling projects which may be accomplished with in-house staff, temporary employee and/or contractors. Prepares QIRs to identify and rectify unworkable procedures, policies, or equipment. Collaborates with the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor to provide information and advice to the management regarding feasibility and cost of work assignments, budget estimates and workload data to assist in preparation and review of long-range plans and schedules. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent will be working with the various trades, makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 75 pounds. When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheet of plywood, framing members, piping, conducts and other building and construction materials. Some trades mentioned above use manual or portable power tools for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
