This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The position is located at the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX), Fort Moore, GA. Fort Moore is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, GA, and adjacent to Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL.

Duties

Perform maintenance, inspection and repair on a variety of small arms weapons and associated optical equipment which will include, but are not limited to rifles, machine guns, recoilless rifles, grenade launchers, pistols, etc. Make initial diagnosis and locate mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, sub-machine and machine guns, mortars, and other small arms and accessories. Test, adjust, troubleshoot, modify, align, service and repair a variety of optical devices, sub-assemblies and components. Use precision gauges and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checks, magnafluxing machines or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damages past acceptable specifications. Read specifications and blueprints in order to assemble weapons and/or locate the cause of improper functioning. Use hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Frequently lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assembles or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing, lifts 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Employment in this position is limited to persons who have not had a conviction of domestic violence under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C 922)
  • Pre-appointment medical examination/physical is required. Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance and must be able to lift weapons weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This is a Testing Drug Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common repair on small arms weapons. Perform maintenance on a variety of small arms weapons. Ability to determine the nature and extent of repairs required, replace parts and assemble as required. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Frequently lifts sub-assemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assembles or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing, lifts 100 pounds with assistance. Close eye and hand coordination is required in fitting and repairing optical parts. Working Conditions: Works in shop building and mobile equipment repair shops that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Exposed to oil, grease, and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Frequently exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises form tools or sharp edges of metal. Subject to noise when testing firing weapons. Employee is required to wear protective safety devices such as safety shoes, ear plugs, ear muffs, and safety glasses as required by current safety regulations. Employee may be exposed to all types of weather conditions while working range and training sites locations.
