This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Working leader over employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. The nonsupervisory work led is Small Arms Repairer.
Duties
Pass on to other workers instructions and check work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with technical manuals and the supervisor's instructions.
Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
Disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, and reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons such as electrically and manually fired machine guns and commercial weapons.
Read and apply technical manuals and specifications in order to assemble weapons and/or locate the cause of improper functioning.
Use hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications and adjustments.
Test fire weapons as required and observe all safety precautions.
Operate a motor vehicles ranging in size from pick-up truck to 2-1/2 ton capacity to transport weapons maintenance and repair support during field exercises and range firing.
Use tools and testing devices such as precision gauges, micrometers, multi-meters, borescopes, grinders, files, jigs, common hand tools of the trade.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements; i.e., heavy lifting. This person may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- Incumbent must be capable of operating a motor vehicle ranging in size from pick-up truck to 2-1/2 ton capacity and maintaining a valid state driver's license.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons; pass on instructions to other workers; and ensure needed material and tools are available. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work requires frequent bending, pushing, pulling, walking, long periods of standing. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 20 pounds, may lift items as heavy as 90 pounds; when lifting items weighing 50 pounds or more two persons are required. Weapons Shop or unit Arm Rooms do not have weight handling equipment, overhead cranes or forklifts readily available for heavier equipment.
Working Conditions: Works in a building that is well lighted, heated and ventilated. Frequently stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. May occasionally work in outside range or field conditions while supporting firing ranges or training. Exposure to grease, oil, and solvents. Subject to cuts and bruises; subject to noise and serious injury when test firing weapons.
