Duties
The Chief of Staff works with and for the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board independently carrying out day-to-day operations using a variety of coordinating, planning, and leadership techniques to assure that the work of the support and administrative staff and Board is successfully accomplished.
Typical work assignments include:
Recruiting, hiring, and supervising a diverse, excellent staff of full-time employees, including an attorney, a public affairs specialist, an administrative officer, researchers, and any additional staff the Board deems necessary based in the Washington, D.C., area.
Arranging meetings for Board members, as needed, with the pertinent agency employees.
Using leadership abilities to communicate goals and objectives, to investigate and resolve problems or concerns, and to ensure timely delivery of quality work products and services produced by the team as it seeks release of government held Civil Rights Cold Case Records.
Using knowledge of legal history and processes involving the Freedom of Information Act, confidentiality, and privacy.
Providing the full range of supervisory responsibilities to The Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board personnel engaged in research and administration work for the Commission.
Qualifications
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you meet the following requirements:
You have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Accessing government-held records to support program research;
Cultivating relationships with other organizations to ensure expedited release of records;
Using knowledge of the Federal Information Act (FOIA) to ensure compliance of record retrieval; and
Overseeing subordinates to ensure the completion of work.
