About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Police/Provost Marshal Office, Fort Myer, VA. It is within easy driving distance of Washington, D.C. national historical sites and parks. You can find shopping, schools, and churches in the area.
This position alternates duty locations between Ft Myer, VA and Ft McNair in Washington, DC. Ft Myer is the primary duty location and Ft McNair is the secondary duty location, as needed.
Duties
Provides technical advice and guidance on intrusion detection systems.
Reviews drawings and plans for new construction or modifications to existing structures, for physical safeguards, and adherence to security regulations.
Serves as System Administrator for the intrusion detection system (IDS) ICIDS IV and provides i training to dispatchers and unit personnel concerning day-to-day operations.
As the physical security technical expert, provides advice to command on physical security matters.
Plans and conducts on-site physical security surveys, inspections and/or antiterrorism assessments.
Conducts physical security inspections and surveys.
Assists in preparing of the Installation Physical Security Plan and Installation mobilization plans.
Conducts regularly scheduled, unannounced and after-duty-hour inspections to pinpoint procedural and physical deficiencies.
Prepares written report identifying deficiencies and provides recommendations for corrective action.
Makes physical security recommendations to prevent unauthorized access to materials and documents.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires completion of Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE 450.
- Must have and be able to maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Incumbent will be screened and evaluated annually for duties involved in Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives.
- This position is designated as mission essential and is subject to recall based on mission requirements and during emergency situations.
- This position is designated as emergency essential.
- Must complete a SF 312, Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA).
- This position is designated as Drug Testing Required. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing and must pass urinalysis testing prior to appointment and periodically thereafter
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret - SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Information) security clearance.
- Must obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within the first two years of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing threat assessments for personnel and assets; provide recommendations regarding changes to security specifications; conducting inspections of mission essential vulnerable assets and critical infrastructure; conducting training on physical security awareness programs. This is the definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal services (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
