About the Position: This position GS-0401; GS-1301; or GS-0150 is with the Department of the Army, USACE, Fort Worth District, Regulatory Division, Evaluations Branch located in Fort Worth, TX.

Duties

Utilize a professional knowledge of natural, physical, and social sciences theories, practices, and methodologies, as they relate to the natural and human environment. Coordinate the activities of subject matter specialists within or outside the District and evaluating the validity of others expressed views to produce a timely and quality product. Ensure that the physical, biological and chemical integrity of the nation's water resources are improved and that regulated activities in these waters are not contrary to the public interest. Advise lower grade employees on the procedural aspects of the regulatory program, resolve differences (administrative and scientific) among views and positions of other Federal and state agencies and private interests. Prepare accurate and detailed environmental assessments. Serve as Project Manager for contracts to accomplish work beyond the capability/availability of current hired labor force. Represent the District and/or Regulatory Branch on interagency and other task forces such as Corps national policy and regulation developments and public agency project developments.

Requirements

  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 25% of the time.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Geographer, series 0150: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist, series 1301: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience - One year of specialized experience which includes at least two of the following duties: (1) Reviewing permit applications for proper documentation; AND/OR (2) Conducting field investigations and preparing draft reviews of findings; AND/OR (3) Recommending corrective actions to mitigate impacts on waters in accordance with regulatory guidance. (NOTE: This experience MUST be well documented on your resume or application package.) This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationProject ManagementReasoningTechnical Documentation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
