Are you up for an exciting challenge to work in the Manual of Patent Examining Procedures (MPEP), Office of the Deputy Commissioner who oversees Patent Examination Policy. This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Patent Examination Policy providing staff assistance in policy formulation and translation of policy decisions into revised guidelines, practices and procedures, and training materials for professionals in organizations under the Commissioner for Patents.
Duties
The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia.This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is GS-14.
Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience in the patent examination processes in the following areas: expertise in advanced engineering, scientific, and/or real world processes, principles, concepts and methodologies that are used in the patent examination process. Use of the full range of administrative laws, policies, regulations and precedents applicable to reexamination proceedings, reissue and other patent application examination proceedings. Analysis of complex technical, factual and legal concepts to establish economic and technological impact on major industry. Evaluation of patent applications to identify relevant issues.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education will not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.
