About the Position: This position is in the Naval Medical Center Office of Dir. of Branch Clinics, San Diego, California. San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, art studios museums and gardens. A deep harbor is the Home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.

Duties

Operate gasoline, diesel, propane, or other fueled vehicles weighing up to 32.000 pounds GVWR. Drive vehicles either on a specific trip basis or upon a regularly established schedule and route to transport materiel, equipment, and personnel. Load and unload materials/equipment or direct laborers in this task. Conduct operational inspections of vehicles for loose parts, damaged, or worn tires, proper tire air pressure, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50# lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a driver license requirement Class B with passenger endorsement is a minimum.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to carry a cell phone and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotational basis, based on the needs of the organization.

Objects over 50 pounds are handled with the assistance of other personnel or mechanical aides. WORKING CONDITIONS The Incumbent works outdoors about 50% of the time. Occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading cargo. Drives in ell types of weather conditions. Also, drives in all types of traffic conditions upon all type of roads. May be exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.
