Employee will serve as an Engineering Technician, at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, in Sioux Falls, SD.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Coordination of project work requirements with other technical and administrative elements of the organization.
Serve as a central point-of-contact for status of AutoCAD and drawing engineering work requests of a short-term nature.
Provide engineering services associated with job order contracting and construction to include evaluating tenant requirements; to establish scope of work; design criteria; and estimates of design time and costs; providing technical assistance to support contract administration; accomplishing study/design requirements; and preparing/coordinating design packages for renovations, repairs and or alterations.
Stay abreast of overall developments to the degree required to achieve desired customer support improvements.
Review and check technical aspects such as drawings, specifications, quantities, costs, accuracy, completeness and conformity with requirements for planned projects where precedence has already been established.
Understanding of and familiarity with the principles, methods and techniques of various engineering disciplines with no one discipline predominating.
Maintain contact with design engineers, technical personnel of other government activities and private contractors to resolve common problems, such as exchanging information.
Assist senior staff members in planning, engineering management, operations and overall coordination; and for providing advice, assistance and information on all matters related to assigned conventional projects of moderate complexity.
Prepare and maintain engineering-related drawings and plans according to established guidelines, using a variety of computer-based techniques, including scanning, hand digitizing, direct file transfer and use of highly specialized CAD (computer-aided design) graphic programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, may be required to work afterhours and weekends due to contractor schedules.

Qualifications
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; or Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
In order to qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Specific qualifying specialized experience at the GS-7 grade level (which should be documented on your resume) is: surveying construction using knowledge of construction trades; preparing and maintaining engineering related drawings and plans using a variety of computer-based programs; and managing data and information to generate reports using Microsoft office products (or similar computer software).
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess at least one full year of graduate level education directly related to this position as an Engineering technician. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR COMBINATION: Possess a combination of education and experience as previously described to fully qualify for this position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
In order to qualify for this position at the GS-8 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Specific qualifying specialized experience at the GS-8 grade level (which should be documented on your resume) is: reviewing and checking technical drawings for planned projects where precedence has been established; surveying construction using knowledge of construction trades; preparing and maintaining engineering related drawings and plans using a variety of computer-based programs; and managing data and information to generate reports using Microsoft office products (or similar computer software).
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess one and one-half (1.5) years of graduate level education directly related to this position as an Engineering Technician. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study. In order to qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Specific qualifying specialized experience at the GS-9 grade level (which should be documented on your resume) is: interpreting plans and specifications for building construction projects; reviewing and checking technical drawings for planned projects where precedence has been established; surveying construction using knowledge of construction trades; preparing and maintaining engineering related drawings and plans using a variety of computer-based programs; and managing data and information to generate reports using Microsoft office products (or similar computer software).
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess at least two full years of graduate level education that is directly related to this position as an Engineering technician; OR possess a Master's degree that is directly related to this position as an Engineering technician. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study.
