About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Possess knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of complex major systems and assemblies to troubleshoot and repair a variety of systems or to rebuild one or more systems. Troubleshoot a variety of major systems for a variety of vehicles, such as automobiles, trucks, buses, and tractors to complete repairs. Utilize precision measuring tools such as dial gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, vacuum gauges, tachometers, compression testers, capacity testers, coil testers, and pressure bleeding devices to verify needed mechanical repairs. Interpret and apply manufacturers' repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and safety manuals to conduct repairs. Utilize hand and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, insulated pliers, electric drills, pneumatic wrenches, and soldering irons to perform repairs. Perform final reviews of vehicle repairs and vehicle safety to ensure vehicle is fully operational and meet safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • New employees must be able to obtain a required Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year of employment in this position and must be able to retain CDL to continue in the position
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Government Driver's License.
  • The duties of this position may require working Army Power Projection Platform (AP3) Operations utilizing a skill that is classified no higher than the current grade. Work may involve shift work, weekends, or holidays.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Usually works inside in noisy and drafty areas with hard surfaces and is exposed to dirt, grease, and fumes; may be subject to skin irritations, cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains. Safety equipment must be used.
