About the Position: Serve as Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Fork Lift Operator) for Fort Jackson Supply and Services Division. Receive and process incoming shipments, plan item locations within a prescribed storage plan, perform formal inventories, operate electric forklifts, and operate cargo trucks. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 Months position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Duties

Receives and processes incoming shipments. Unloads, inspects, and tallies stock, assuring quantities and types of items agree with shipping documents. Palletized and assembles in temporary warehousing/storage area. Selects proper item for issue. Operates electric forklifts capable of lifting up to 6000 pounds as high as 14 feet.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee may be required to use safety equipment such as: safety shoes, gloves, aprons, safety glasses, goggles, hearing protectors, or any other safety equipment that will preclude personal injury.
  • A pre-employment physical is required. Must be able to lift and carry supplies and materials that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Forklift operator's certificate is required to be obtained/maintained within three months of employment.
  • Must be able to work flexible tours of duty to include alternating shifts/irregular hours, weekends, night shift or day shifts.
  • Inclement Weather Essential Position: Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Fork Lift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Fork Lift Operator) duties. I can receive and unload incoming shipments; and perform warehouse duties. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies and materials that weigh up to 40 pounds; may on occasion lift heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside the warehouse and outside. The areas may be cold, drafty, damp or hot. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. There is the possibility of injury from falling of dropped stock and exposure to cuts, scrapes and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from mechanical conveyor or other equipment.
